Garmin 510 'Software Missing'
Postby Jonathon728 » Sun Mar 30, 2014 11:25 am
Basically I woke up this morning after updating my Garmin Yesterday. I was in a rush so didn't let the software fully update when I switched the device on (Stupid mistake). Now when I turn the device on, it just comes up with 'Software missing'. I've tried plugging it into the computer but it doesn't recognise it anymore. Will contact garmin support tomorrow, just thought someone on this forum might have had the same problem.
cheers

messing with it while its updating the firmware is not good.. hence why the master reset doesn't work.

the device at least showing up as plugged in to the USB port.
my edge 500 got bricked going to 3.0 and it cost me $150 to replace it. I have stayed on 2.8 as a result.

They direct you to a URL to down load an app and a firmware file.Baalzamon wrote:They will most likely send you the firmware via email. I'm guessing since it's not recognised by the PC you will be asked to transfer the firmware to it via micro SD and then given a sequence to force the Edge 510 to read that firmware off the micro SD card.
The app is used to load the file a specie location on to the unit via USB cable. once this is done perform a master reset, it sees the firmware and installs it.
When you call them have your PC USB cable and garmin unit at hand. Try have it fully charged also.

They sent me a compressed file to update the Garmin, that needed to be opened with a WinRAR application. Quite easy and fixed within 10 minutes. Happy days

The other way of looking at this is the closer your version matches where Garmin do the bulk of their testing, the safer, so update early and oftenJonathon728 wrote:Happy to say I rang customer support and my Garmin is...FIXED! Very happy and will never update again.

But it just would not talk to pc.
I have sent it back to them and they say they will send me a refurbed unit.
What a pia.
Updates should only happen when user oks it.
I will certainly not interfere with future updates!

I am hoping that simply not interupting updates will avoid this happening again?
Or..is there a setting to stop future updates?
