I leave the backlighting on permamnently and just change the brightness from 100% to 0 when it gets light enough.

So, am I understanding it right, that you can now have the backlight on for night riding and it's a setting you can choose ?
Yes. You can set the backlighting to remain on for night rides. Otherwise it just remains on for a set amount of time (e.g. 15 sec etc - which you can set). I would have thought it could have been easier to turn this setting on/off - inconjuction with the light button - rather than go a few a layers of menus.

I never thought of that... that means you can make use of the physical light button with the menu options and then do it much quicker...
