Front Light for 35mm handlebar

Postby Shadyone » Wed Oct 22, 2014 9:32 pm

As the title says...I tried putting a couple of old lights onto my new bike and they don't fit. I have the Deda 35 bars and the light fitting isnt large enough to go around. Any know of suitable lights that will fit around the bar?

Look at lights which either do not have a solid mount (stretchy like lezyne macro drive mount) or look for ones with a continuous tightening mount (like all cateye lights)

Yep I'd go for a Cateye mount. The stretchy silicon mount types will also fit but I'll bet they tear sooner rather than later.

Yep Cateyes Flex Tight bracket works well for 35mm

Thanks guys,

From the packaging on the Cateyes lights that I can see it says from 22mm-32mm diameter bars. Do we know that they do fit the 35mm bars?

How far out does the OS clamping section extend? You may be able to offset mount the lights.

Being a noob I'm not sure what the 'OS clamping section' is but these are the bars I have....

We were all n00bs once :D I've never seen these ones before

The clamping area is the black centre section visible in the red and white versions, many of them have alignment marks there as well.
On most bars, the entire length of the bar is typically 25.4mm except for the clamping area which bulges out to 31.8mm. Yours are OS out to the curves.

THAT looks like a bloody good deal, would you mind letting us know how it goes for you? I'm leaning towards a shaped beam headlight for my commuter project and would value your input.

Thanks

Indeed, that's the first USB rechargeable 'shaped' beam low price point light I've seen, although the run time at full beam looks like it might be a bit limited. Not in the market myself as my dynamo driven Cyo Premium keeps me happy, but there'll be plenty of commuters that will be keen to hear some feedback.

What the... that light looks exactly the same as the wiggle lifeline 300 lumen light! Probably came out of the same factory but rebadged

I found beam shots of the 500 lumens version a while ago but can't seem to find the website anymore.

Do you mean 31.8 mm handlebar?

I always get a good life span/low cost to run/ initial cost with SMART brand lights.
Check with the retailer for 31.8mm bar mounting first.

Moon GEM 2.0 USB rechargeable light is a low cost 3 LED/7 lumen o/put.

Although a lot of the SMART lights are low out put (between 7-35 Lux on 2x AA cells) on a single LED
There's the trade off/compromise output to battery run time, eg 50/100 hrs with 7-10 lux.5/12/18 hrs with 35 lux. Rechargable NiMh AA type cells have become very cheap also.

AA cells seem to be pretty good.

Anything with watch batteries (CR 2032) have a short life? That's what I heard...

I take it then you didn't click the link & read the bar's specs.... It is a 35mm clamp area. Not great if the stem needed changing for any reason.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.
