Nothing too remarkable. Not too racy, not too relaxed. They used to have it up on their site. Don't know why they don't still, but the interwebs never forget:

If you're fit. I failed a reasonable climb with 39/27 a few weeks back. That said, I did a similar climb with 39/23 with better prep only a week ago...

The old spec used to have a 11-25 cassette, so with a 39-25 some may have trouble on steeper/longer climbs. I see that they changed it but a compact would be better considering the target market of the bike. Most if not all big name brands are stocking compacts on similar style bikes.

On another note the "vip" coupon code is intended for those who have bought a bike previously from them. I don't know if they still do it, but they used to give out a vip card with a bike purchase which enabled you to get 10% off in store for accessories and 5% off for bikes. They probably couldn't distinguish between bikes/accessories when ordering online so the code just takes of 10% off anything. So yes, you could use the coupon code, although if you haven't purchased a bike from them before technically you are not entitled to use it.

On the VIP code, they do say on the envelope that comes with the card and manual that your friends and family can use use the discount... It isn't supposed to work on already discounted items though.

Ribble is having some specials on shimano groupsets.

105 5800 = $434
Ultegra 6800 = $677
Shimano Di2 Ultegra 6870 = $1304 (Would need to pay +10% GST)

Shift kit is $971 so no GST to pay.

No,but I nearly did! :P

Oh,I'm in agreement there.

Having said that,I know of quite a few mountain bikers who have heart failure even contemplating a roadie with anything less than a 28t on the back. For a beginner, who may well be out of shape,I can see where they might like to kick off with a 28t (or bigger) until they get the k's in their legs to push a bit harder on the hills. I say this as someone who rarely swaps out his 12-23t cassette, the odd monster-hill excursions being the exceptions.

That's me. With Gong Ride coming up and a 11-25... is it worth going to a 12-28?
I have 8-speed 105. I guess I'd need to bust my chain and add a couple of links if I was to do this? Would everything else work as is?

Put yourself on the small front ring, and the largest rear ring, and see if the derailleur cage has any play in it ie could it take a larger rear cog?

FWIW I moved from 12-25 to 11-28 and didn't have to do anything with the chain.

Why bother? I did the Gong in 2hrs 30min, then back to Sydney via Bulli Pass with 50/36 + 11-23. The climb nearly killed me but it can be done. 8)

City Bike Depot in Kent St Sydney has the Urban Light and Motion 700 for only $120 in their odd and ends sale bin. I picked up one today. There's still a few left in there.

It's on special because it's last years model and has now been replaced by an 800 lumen model. But there's stuff all difference between the two, so at $120 (compared to nearly $200 for the new model) it's a good buy.

I think I read somewhere that if you have 8 or 9 speed shimano you can actually use a Mountain bike cassette at the rear, thereby getting bigger rings at the back and making things a bit easier going uphill. Mind you, if you are like me, there's a spare 10Kg hanging around my waste and getting rid of it would be the cheapest and easiest upgrade possible.

Disc brake kit of 2x TRP Spyre calipers + 2x 160mm rotors for $99 from an Australian seller on ebay:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TEKTRO-TRP-S ... 1293708805" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

A single caliper on wiggle is $91. Purchased for a commuter i'm building, will report back if there are any issues with the kit.

The promotional email says "site wide", but I just tried the code and got the message: "sorry, doesn't apply to clearance items"!

It's the same for their price match. Doesn't apply to "clearance" items. Surprising how much of their stock is on permanent clearance.

I don't know about clearance items but I just used the code to finally bite the bullet and purchase a Garmin Edge 1000 bundle which took the price from $729 to $620 with free shipping.
The cheapest i'd seen it otherwise was at Bikebug for $659, so I thought it was ok.
