Ribble Cycles

Postby brendeng » Wed Jan 12, 2011 5:24 pm

Anyone dealt with www.ribblecycles.co.uk of recent time ??

I was a first time purchaser from there recently, Have dealt with Wiggle, Probikekit and Chain Reaction on many many occasions, and I am finding Ribble's processing and shipping times to be far longer than any of the other shops. Even when all the things I ordered from Ribble were in stock !!

Interested in other peoples experience. Feel free to thrown in any other good shops to deal with I haven't mentions. The More the Merrier !!

I have had good experiences with Ribble, don't usually buy from them though because they've been more expensive, however If you want to buy at the moment they seen to be pretty competitive as they have 20% off right now.

They are a little slower, no question. However, this month, they are a metric butt-ton cheaper than any of the usual suspects so I figure it'll be worth the wait. I'm considering putting another order in myself.

I have had three orders through Ribble. All three were received in about 5 working days.

I have orders from Sydney take longer!!

Have ordered quite a few things from them. Prices normally better than the other big online uk stores but they do tend to take longer to arrive.
Never had an issue though.

Used Ribble for the first time... 2 tyres and 6 tubes.
Ordered Jan 6, despatched 10 Jan, arrived today.
Paid via PayPal, so that made things nice and easy too.

Not the quickest, but good service and the price was right.

I order from Ribble a bit, and while their postage isn't the quickest, they're prices are brilliant.

So, still easier to get on than a taterskin?

(Ribble must be SWAMPED with that 20% dealio at the moment.)

Fitted tyres today, first front wheel, very tight to get on, just about on then realised had the 'rotation' the wrong way round, so off it came...
Put it on the right way, removed the back tyre which had 3 large splits in them I noticed when changing a flat tyre during the Amy Gillett ride around Geelong (which is a good excuse to upgrade tyres, although expensive).
Fitting the rear tyre was tighter than the front, and I was becoming concerned from Bandelero's experience, but one of the curse words muttered must have worked the magic and on it popped.
So all going well, off tomorrow morning to start wearing them down.

I am still new to the cycling game, but the rims are Shimano, no actual model written on them, although the hubs have WH-R550. ??Guess thats the model??
The bike I purchased second hand, is a Azzurri Primo, (2008 model I think), had only done 240km when I brought it and should be original spec.
I haven't been able to get the full spec on the model...

I'm about to drop some cash on the Sidi Ergo 2's at $285. They're around $100 cheaper than any other big UK site so I kinda can't help myself!

Got my 4000S a couple a months ago from Ribble on a special. Fitted OK, just rotated, also OK. Would say the quality of the tyres didn't look as good as previously; decals looked wobbly, just looked cheaper, I suspected they might be some bulk buy from a 2nd string Conti factory, but they seem to be performing OK.

I received a pair of 4000S from Wiggle a month ago and are exactly the same as described, dodgy graphics and a much tighter fit than my last set of GP4000. I did manage to get them on my Zipp rims without tyre leavers, just thumbs.

resurrecting an old post here. Ribble has been one of my favourite sites for components for a few years. Not always but they are often the cheapest for a new set of cranks, saddle etc. I received the email last weekend telling me they were opening up an Australian website. My experience with this in the past hasnt been good, where I was getting a great deal from overseas on other products/industries, the opening of a local portal normally meant applying the 'Australia Tax' and complying with local distribution restrictions etc.

Researching a new mid compact Dura Ace Crankset and compared the UK Ribble versus Australian Ribble and by my reckoning the UK site is way cheaper. This is after I removed the UK VAT and did a currency conversion using xe.com

Looks like the Ribble train is over, might be time to switch over to Evans!

True Capital is a retail and consumer sector specialist private equity firm.
Don't know much about the above, from what I am reading, it looks like they are the owners..maybe I am wrong.
Could also be a franchise operation..in name only..Doesn't Ribble also own Chain Reaction Cycles..?
Only my opinion.probably wrong..2+2 =4..thats about my limit..

@foz - Ribble are not connected to Chain Reaction Cycles. Rather Wiggle bought-out / merged with Chain Reaction Cycles.
