From what I remember of your HED axle, I'm thinking it'll be very easy to convert to a front.

If you cut 10mm off each side of your spacers, then you'll end up with 100mm spacing. If the 10mm axle you've got doesn't fit in your fork tips, then you can file two flats in the threads to make it down to 9mm. And you can always slip back on the two 10mm spacers that was cut off if you want to go back to a rear wheel.

Apologies for the thread dig.
Is someone able to forward me the details for Stephen Dixon? I'm trying to chase down a track adaptor.
Thanks in advance!

All sorted for Nathan. He found Phil Dixon on the Track group on Facebook.

Hi guys

I am desperately looking for such a thread-on adapter for my HED disc.

Would it be possible to forward my contact details to steve or to tell me where i can buy an adapter online?

I searched for more than a week but it seems impossible to find those beauties

Many thanks in advance

Another thread mine.

I just picked up a Zipp 950 today. Came with the road axle (126mm) and a 7spd DA screw on cluster.
It's really only useful to me as a track wheel so I immediately ripped the hub apart to have a play. Once I did, the serial number sticker fell out of the hub shell, indicating date of manufacture as 1990. It's in quite good condition for that age!

My initial rough measurements indicated it could work as a front disc, but it might be close in terms of the hub body clearing the fork legs on one side. Looks good once sat in the forks without the axle end caps though.
New bearings ordered so once they arrive I'll play around with a track axle, some lock nuts and spacers but im confident this should be an easy conversion to a front wheel. Sweet!

My plan is to make up a completely new axle set, rather than butcher the old parts. Standard axles are cheap and easy to come by. A 1990 Zipp 126mm axle (if I ever needed one...???), not so easy to find.

I'll post back with pics and proper measurements as I progress.

Edit: haven't been on here for a while so let's see if anyone can see our access these pics

That's a blast from the past, there's an adaptor that corrects the chain line for track bikes.

I've no longer got my Zipp 950 wheel but I do know who's got it, if you have any questions

Cheers Mike. This hub is dual sided for track or 7spd road so no adaptor required - although I do actually have one already. I used it on an old aerospoke for pursuiting in the 90s. I've got a pic somewhere of a skinny little KGB riding one of the NSWCF Clamont track funny bikes with 700c aerospoke rear and a 650c aerospoke front.

I'm hoping I'll be able to sort this out pretty easily but will certainly pick your brain if I get stuck.

Hi all,

I am considering converting a Gen 1 HED Disc from rear to front with a bolt axle for track. I also want to replace the bearings with something good but not ceramic.

Has anyone got and pictorial instructions on how to go about this? The old thread has lost the pictures. Happy to buy a front disc as alternative if anyone has something reasonable?

Many thanks in advance
