I wish Conti would make a true skin wall tyre like a Veloflex master. A supple skinwall with Conti's grippy rubber would be awesome IMO, especially in a 25 and 28 mm.

I've never used them. I've seen others run them and puncture a bit though.
I might be tempted to try the one, which is the same weight in a 23 as the GP at 205 gm I think. Not at the current price though.

I also agree with other ppl's feedback on lack of durability with the current 4000s, I'm the only one in my group that they seem to be problematic for. I've binned rears within 4 wks. Find the Fortezza Tricomps & Pro 4 Service Course much better.

Pretty much like my Veloflex Corsa 22 on my last 4 rides, 4 flats too. I wonder if I should pull the trigger and get them from Wiggle, $112.10 for 2 pcs

I don't race so puncture protection and durability are higher priorities versus grip and rolling resistance. That's why I use Vittoria Rubino Pros and average one puncture per year (around 14,000km).

One puncture per year is awesome considering how many kms you are nailing.
4000s II as still shows lack of review at the moment. And since I am an early grabber as always, I'll try this in my other bike ang see how they go against beer bottles/glasses on SOP, Epping Re, M2, Pacific Hway, and M7 bike lanes

To bad the Rubino's are terrible in the wet.

I cant believe how many punctures your having with the Veloflex tyres  . I think I had 1 or 2 in 4000km on mine before I moved to the fatter Challenge Parigi Roubaix's.

That's not my experience. I've done a Bathurst to Blayney in the wet with Rubino Pros and had no problems. I do find Gatorskins very slippery when cornering in the wet.

M7 bike/breakdown lane is awful for glass!  I had to go out into the traffic lane this morning to get around an enormous amount of glass.

I'm getting a few punctures with GP4000S Mk.1, but I'm also contending with some cycle paths that are littered with glass. If I didn't have to contend with so much glass I'd get longer life from them. I'll live with that for the way those tyres perform overall.

yeah, I am not having luck at the moment with my rear Veloflex. I really like them but the breakdown lanes here in Sydney are horrible. Even the M7 cycle path gave me my first dose of flat in 2 years yesterday.

l'll move the Veloflex's to my commuter. My daily commute does not involve any breakdown lane, is short and mostly free of glasses. A puncture will also mean that I don't hold other riders waiting for me to finish replacing my tube :D

Hi Blakeylonger

I'm new no this forum though I've been riding for over 25 years. I consider myself pretty tech savvy and know what is what but was interested in some of your comments on tyre selection and hope you can provide me with a little more information.

I ride an ex-Team Scandium Merckx Frame. It was originally built for a 56T (53 minimum) front chain ring and 20mm tubular tyres. I had a local Perth frame builder modify the rear end with spacers so I can run a 23mm rear Continental GP 4000S clincher tyre. It's a nice bike, is almost timeless with ex-Team cred, and I love it. I'm past spending money on the latest upgrades to buy 40 seconds over 40km when riding at 40km/h when I only average 33km/h!

My wheels are 2008 Mavic Cosmic Carbone Premium.

I usually run the GP 4000S front and rear but when the roads are really good I run Supersonics, 20mm front and 23mm rear. I had intended running the new GP 4000S Mk.11 in this configuration full time. What are you views? It is unlikely I'll be able to run bigger than a 23mm rear tyre.

Thanks
Clayton

They are a race type tyre so it wont be that long before he can try 25's and then realise they aren't any better and go back to 23's

25's are alot better then 23 IMO. More comfort and more grip. Whats could be better... Except 28mm

Just picked up a 2nd hand roadie (my first proper drop-bar) and need to replace the old Rubino 23's on it, the previous owner said he got loads of punctures.
As I'm 179cm/90kg I'm moving to 25s. I've heard a lot about the GP4000.

Not sure what to get (or where) - I'm after a decent ride with good puncture protection and grip. I don't race, nor do I regularly ride in the rain - so no flats is more important than knocking 1 minute off my regular ride - but I don't want deadweight marathon pluses either (if I'm riding a seriously rough path I'll take my flatbar with 30c's on it).

Thoughts? I'm considering
- Schwalbe Durano
- Conti Grand Prix GT
- Vredestein Fortezza Quattro Tricomp (if I can find them in 25s)

Gatorskins. I commute on these in 700x25 every day, rain hail or shine. Haven't had a flat in over a year.

I enjoyed that heaps JC (not alot)
Much more than the under whelming experience I get from GP4000's, so hopefully the latest edition is a substantial improvement.
