mudguards

Postby Top_Bhoy » Sun Apr 06, 2014 8:13 am

I'm looking for SKS Longboard 45mm (in silver) mudguards to suit a 700/32 tyre on the disc braked commuter bike I run with. I can't find them (any colour) in any of 3 local shops I was in today nor online from Aus dealers. Uk online places Wiggle and Ribble don't post overseas, c r c only have black.

Anyone know of an Aussie or overseas online dealer where these will be available to Aus at reasonable cost (including delivery)?

Cheers

Try the European retailers such as http://bike24.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, http://starbike.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (less likely), http://xxcycles.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and http://www.roseversand.de/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks for all the replies.

ChainReaction have them in black (which I might yet do), Evans want $128.94 for delivery

A couple of places have been like that...reasonable purchase price but rocket high delivery costs. It makes you wonder how the likes of Wiggle and ChainReaction can deliver similar type items for free (or very low) and these other places are in the $100+ region.

I'm no mudguard expert but the axioms do appear similar and get a good review here http://road.cc/content/review/74762-axi ... -mudguards

Definitely worth considering but for me...I have this fixation of getting silver and these are black. Once the worse weather comes along, I'll probably have to compromise if I haven't found a pair in silver. :D

Thanks - based on reviews ordered the Axioms.
SKS sound a little difficult to fit and not sure about them with disc brakes.
You can get the silver SKS Longboard for 44euros (A$64) delivered from Bike24.

The video here http://www.sks-germany.com/?l=en&a=prod ... 6409800121 shows them being fitted to a disk braked bike....but I know what you mean.

I'm looking at Bike24 and trying to decide what else I need such as very good winter gloves and some overshoes/gaiters.

No surprise there. Australian bike shops generally have the attitude that mudguards are a frivolous and unneccesary bit of fluff. Better range, prices, and service from overseas stores. Try St John Street Cycles (they will ship to you), Bike24, xxcyle.com, or Starbike.

[edit] Reading on would be good. I see nearly all these have already been canvassed

might pay to be patient. I wanted the sks chromoplastic in silver, was out of stock at c r c during a free shipping promo whilst available in black, but came back into stock a week later. as usual had no trouble getting over the free shipping value anyway

Update - tonite I finally fitted the Axiom Rainrunner DLX Reflex Mud Guard to my Giant Revolt 0 (with hydro brakes).

Took about an hour to get them fitted - mostly due to the fact that the rear guard was just touching the rear derailleur and undid all the bolts to try and get it to clear it. It is still very close but looks like it will not interfere. Looks pretty good (will get photo later). The dark reflective strips really light up in the headlights. Looks like I will get to test it out thoroughly on weekend if weather forecast is correct!

I did not fit before when I had the temporary cable disc brakes as they mount too far out. The hydro brakes sit inboard and do not require any special fitting when mounting the guards. Also did a rough test fit of a standard (non-disc) version of Topeak Super Tourist DX Rack which should fit fine (just ordered one - current one went o the commuter).
