Rohloff from overseas
Postby Fisher44 » Thu Aug 07, 2014 8:23 am
Hi there, My first post as a newby, and hoping to learn from more experienced riders - I am considering ordering a new Surly Ogre with Rohliff hub - but the prices quoted here in aussie seem crazy, so, my query is - where have other members ordered a Rohliff online with good pricing and good delivery with no hassles? cheers

bought my rohloff and accessories from bike24 about 3 years ago. substantial savings . it took about a month to arrive ,so in spite of germany's reputation for efficiency their postal system is ssslllllllllloooooooooowwwwww. Things might have improved three years on.

Bike24 shipping is slow because they use DHL. Watching the tracking on previous purchases, it is very fast to leave the country (under a week), and very slow to either get to Australia, or get from the Australian depot to your final destination.
But +1 for Bike24 otherwise.

Last few orders from bike24 have taken 2 weeks, compared to the 4 weeks it took years ago for orders.

Thanks for the suggestions - I am looking into Bike 24 and a couple of others and the results are looking good - I have changed my views on the Ogre though - preferring the ECR instead, cheers and thanks again - though if I can get a similar deal from the west coast of USA I'll buy over there as I am going to visit my son in LA soon, and can bring the bike back home with me.

Ordered my Rohloff from bike24 four years ago, for $A1120. MUCH cheaper than the then $2000 for a local hub supplied. With the terrible winter snow-storms that December, and the Christmas mail rush, mine took 6 weeks to get delivered, but it was OK - I was prepared to wait.
Since then we have bought two more also from bike24 for the same sort of cost. The Australian price has come down a fair bit but there is still a difference of over $300. My son's Rohloff arrived in about 2-3 weeks. You could also get a very good price buying through the NZ distributor I believe. Andy did this.

Having looked around, theres not a lot of difference buying from USA to justify all thats involved - seems wiser to order from NZ and save approx $300 compared to buying here.
Thanks to all who replied, cheers
