Respray or return - new bike
Postby TURBOF30 » Sun Aug 31, 2014 2:23 pm
I have a slight problem, I purchased a new bike (cannondale SuperSix EVO 3 Ultegra) last Wednesday. I ordered the black model, however when I picked it up this morning it was that baby blue colour. Puke.
The shop was quite happy for me to take it for a few days to see if the colour grows on me, and they are happy to accept a refund if I'm still not happy. I have called around and apparently everyone is out of the black 2014 model...
I love the bike, just not the colour. If I opt for a respray, I'll go a custom colour scheme.
Respray or return?
Thoughts?

I rather like the white and green and clearcoat carbon. Not sure if that's still available in the current model year.

Most people have slight buyers remorse on what they actually wanted, multiply this x 3 for what you have been saddled with...
Take it back.
A respray is not a serious option.
Get a refund, see if they can do a deal on a 2015 model in the colour you want?

Get your money back and buy a Giant and a Vivente World Randonneur. Two great bikes for the price of one garbage Cannondale bike.
That's what I did when things went wrong for me with a Cannondale purchase.
(Only joking (sort of))

That is unless you can get a guarantee that the warranty wont be voided and the shop (or distributer - Monza) will look after the repray cost.

I don't think I can happily keep it though, just not keen on the colour. I'm not specifically after a black bike, I simply preferred the black over the blue. If I had my choice, orange would be the go (must be the Dutch side of me) which is why I was considering the respray.
I'm not a brand guy, so the stickers don't mean anything to me. I just liked the bike over others I test rode. I'm going to take it back tomorrow and discuss my options... The 2015 model is another 1k which is more than I wanted to spend, so that's out.
Thanks for your input everyone

How 'bout an orange bike and a black bike.TURBOF30 wrote:If I had my choice, orange would be the go
A racer and a tourer. Double the fun at about the same price as a single Cannondale.
Win, win.

OP obviously liked the bike he purchased as well.
take it back and see what your options are. if they cant supply the colour and spec you ordered, i'd be asking for a discount on the blue one, or a discount off the 2015 model.

I would counter that by saying the bike is actually only a very small part of the visible package, so colour makes stuff-all difference (as does helmet colour, from my observations). The person on the bike is what first catches the eye, as it's by far the biggest component.wombatK wrote:But be aware a black bike will be way less visible to motorists and put you at higher risk in traffic.

But looking deeper, they can't control what chemicals are used in the paint, nor can they control how much material is removed from the frame should it be stripped back. .. too many variables that can harm the frame so it's simpler just to knock it on the head. I'd certainly do the same if it was my product.

Be interesting to hear the ACCCs take on that. I guess it would depend on the fault and weather or not the manufacture can provide evidence the paint or prep work was the cause.
Does not matter what the warranty card says.
