SRAM Shimano compatbility

Postby harmonix1234 » Wed Sep 10, 2014 1:43 pm

I have SRAM Rival brifters.
Can I run them with Ultegra brake calipers?

The SRAM Apex calipers that came on the bike are terrible, and have heard great things about ultegra brakes.

Will there be issues with the cable pull ratio? Don't mind sacrificing a bit of modulation if power is increased. Modulation is learned on new or different brakes with time.

Suggestions?

Will be used with 28c tyres.

Should be ok with a bit of tweaking of clearances to get your comfortable lever stroke.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

Not exactly the same Harmonix, but I swapped out the Bontrager direct-mount brakes on my Madone for the Ultegra direct mount brakes. They work fine with my SRAM Red levers.

I pulled my Apex calipers to bits, cleaned and greased them, changed the cables and they work great now. I also use the origional SRAM/Swisstop brakepads and find them to be pretty good.

I also cleaned and greased the brifter which made a huge difference for shifting.
