+1 for the camelbak, I did put one in the dishwasher and it tasted bad for a couple of days... My current pair are about 3 years old and still going strong. Also better than a glass of water on the bedside table since the cat hasn't learned to operate them :-) Don't like drinking cold water so no insulated ones for me.

Where's the cheapest place to buy camelbak podium?
If the R-1 rule is broken, what happens to N+1?

It got my last batch from "catch of the day", but before that either c r c or Wiggle quite often have them on sale. It helps if you are not too fussy on the colours. I have never paid more that $10 for the standard podium (on the large and the small size). My first pair of podium chill bottles were $19 each, but I got all the others for $12 each.

I have used a couple of the one litre ones from this site. No plastic taste. I freeze them half full and top up with cold water or cordeal.
No cracks or problems for two years.I have two of the smaller $5-00 ones as well .

Am I correct in saying that the covers are easily permanently removable?

They have a lanyard type clip on lid to prevent dust. You have to unclip it and hold it back when drinking. I have no probs with drinking and driving. :)

In my experience all such plastic covers are no match for a determined person with an exacto knife :)

I tried superlite weight stainless steel ones, but they were a really bad fit for my cages. They seemed to fit fine, but rattled like a marracca.

they still stock it, just don't ship to aus.

If your really keen, you can change the location to UK to see it and order it with VAT, work colleague did this accidentally and received his item, albeit he paid vat, not worth it for camelbak bottles i wouldn't think.

I gave up on plastic ones as they all seemed to either taste initially or did so after a time. They also eventually change shape a little and drop out of the cage.

I found some stainless steel ones at Jimm Kidd of which I bought three. To which I added pop-top type tops (they came with just a large screw top) from the same shop.

I can't recall what they cost, prolly around$20 each including the replacement tops.

Dented but long lasting and no taste issues. I am still on the original one two years later.

Mine are mounted on the only pipe in the whole cycle which is vertical. So gravityholds them down against the base of the cage. However I can see how they may rattle as Jester mentioned if you mount them on the down tube as is normal for you guys.

I only see the 700ml ones for 12.99, and you can buy 5 of them.

They look like the old version. Get the new version if you can. Much bigger valve and cleanable too

Against the grain here, camelbak are the worst I have owned, simply looking at the bottles seems to incite mould growth.

I always use a drop of domestos and fill it up with water after each wash to get rid of any smell and/or residuals. anything else will feel weird (ocd kicking in)

Haven't had a spot of mould in my camelbak bottles ever. Only water though.

The new version has a removable valve, much easier to clean.
