Shoe Size

Postby Space Cadet » Sun Sep 28, 2014 1:15 pm

Do bike shoe sizes match your normal sport shoe size. I want to buy a pair of Shimano road shoes and at this stage I can't find them in store anywhere. So I will order them over the net and pick them up when I go to the US next. If they don't fit I can return them for another size, but would rather save the hassle. BTW, I am a US12 sport shoe size. Cheers

cycling shoes are a different fit to walking/running shoes. I'm a US12 and a 46 suits me in a sidi megas

I usually go a size up on standard cross trainers in cycling shoes (a bit like roller skates!). But different brands are all over the place. I take a US10.5 New balance cross trainer in a wide fit which I fit a EU 45 Shimano. But I have to go up to a 46 in a SIdi because they are narrow (or a 45.5 Sidi mega seems to fit ok as well but I haven't used those long term). I really like DMTs which I fit a 45 fairly well and I also have a pair of Nike in EU45 as well.

Size 12US is pretty big. I reckon you might be in a EU47 Shimano at a guess.

Thank you guys. I was thinking of a size 47. I just went into a bike shop thinking I would try some shoes on, but the biggest size they had was 44, so no luck there. He did suggest one size smaller saying road shoes need to be tight, but I don't want to end up with sore feet. Are the socks you wear generally thin or thick, or doesn't that matter? That might affect weather I go for a 46 or 47.

You are a 47 in shimano, 47 in specialized, 47.5 Sidi.

I am a US12 and have Sidi Mega 47. They are probably just too big but I like wearing Merino socks. Great width but.

Like I've said before, US 12 and I've initially purchased Sidi 47 road shoes, n felt 46 would be perfect for my next shoe purchase & my MTB shoes needed replacement and I was spot on. 46 sidi mega dominators fit perfectly.

Sidi are notoriously undersized, so you'll find you need a size bigger in them than anything else.. Although the Euro sizing system is the primary one used for expressing cycling shoe size, you'll find they do state the size in the more common systems as well.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

Sidi notoriously undersized? No way!

Like Baalzamon I wear US12 normally but 46 in Sidi. Shimano in 46 on the other hand I narrow, and 47 too long, feel like Goofy's shoes.

Thanks again guys. Seems I better find another store with my sizes to try on, as I'm sure which ever size I order will be the wrong one.
