Sora 3550 9Spd Chain Set - Compatible?

Postby ed933 » Sat Oct 11, 2014 1:51 pm

Hey fellas,

I've got a 2006 Trek 1200 I ride around on weekends and commute with a few days every fortnight. I live in north-west sydney and the dare I say the hills are killing me which is why I'm been looking at chainsets such as this one http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/showPart. ... R492&bike= so I can spin up hills with ease, especially as I'm also looking to buy a rack to carry cargo:

Can this particular chainset can be installed on my bicycle and is it any good?

At the moment the bike's got a 9-speed drivetrain, stock AFAIK. (tiagra brifters & brakes, shimano 500 front and rear derailers, tiagra double chainrings 39/53)

Cheers guys. (:

It'll be fine, although you'll need a new bottom bracket to suit the crank design. '06 Tiagra would be 4400-series 3-piece crank with Octalink splined BB, while the 3550 Sora is two-piece with external bearing BB.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.
