Changing the cassette question.
Postby alarks » Tue Oct 21, 2014 9:56 pm
At the moment I have a 53/39 crankset with a 11-25 cassette. I'm thinking of changing it to a 11-28, will there be any compatibility issues? assuming everything is Ultegra 6700.
Thanks!

It's only in the last three or so years that derailleurs have been designed to handle 30T sprockets, and Dura-Ace still (officially) max out at 28T, as does anything before 2012-model year Tiagra & 105; Sora & Ultegra got the extended capacity the following year.

I have a two 6600 derailleured bikes that wont clear a 30t (28t only) and a 6700 that will. Guessing the length of the derailleur hanger has a bit to do with it.rangersac wrote:Using a 4500 Tiagra RD on my commuter at the moment, which has a forged derailleur hanger and it handles a 30T fine. The missus road bike has a 6600 RD which also clears a 30T, similarly it also has a forged rather than a replaceable dropout. I wonder if the forged hangers have more clearance than the newer replaceable type?
