Source of chainrings

Postby find_bruce » Sat Oct 25, 2014 12:35 pm

I need to get a couple of 39T chainrings, 130mm bcd & was surprised at the price of chainrings, even at the usual suspects - eg

Shimano 105 5700 crankset $130
Shimano 105 5700 39T $30
Shimano 105 5700 53T $51

ie a pair of chainrings are 60% the price of a whole crankset. Nothing special about the chainrings either, it is not like the outer ring is the fancy hollow forged version like the 6700.

Anyone know a good source of chainrings ?

I've got a few 39t Biopaces. Long lasting steel ones. As well as the matching 52t rings.

Otherwise, Stronglight chainrings from Ribble.

I have successfully ordered Stronglight CT2 chainrings a couple of times through French online shop http://www.xxcycle.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Best range of Stronglight rings I've found online, but if you want to stick with Shimano rings they have these too...

Luckily i've found my current cranks have the right BCD to use steel Biopace rings (which i have a virtually unlimited supply of), otherwise it would be a matter of buying a new set of cranks whenever the rings wear out, which is ridiculous.
