2nd Hand Powertap Pro torque offset numbers
Postby GasCyclist » Sun Nov 16, 2014 10:23 pm
My mate has given me some carbon tubs with a Powertap Pro laced into rear wheel. A try before I buy type deal.he mentions the numbers were inaccurate but said could just be the head unit of need batteries changed.
Had a look at the joule unit and went to the manual zero setting and torque number is 764 and Offset is 764.... My understand was this number needs to be around the 512 number. Does this mean the powertap has seen better days??
Had a spin on the trainer and power with not too much force spinning was around the 100-150 range.
Keen to hear your thoughts
Cheers

Just wondering if the price is good say $500 it may be worth fixing. Currently wants $700 for it.

Au $700 isn't a good deal ... neither is $500 I would think, but that depends on the year model and the rim etc.

$700 will get you a new G3 hub, stages or single sided garmin vector power meter
So $500 for 2nd hand powertap pro wheel, it would need to be a very late model (ie the black one) and a very nice rim for me to say value for money. And my Powertap elite+ wheel cost me $1k 4 years ago, and my G3 wheelset almost $2k 2 year ago.

Wheels are Flashpoint 60 Carbon Tubulars.. Front and rear. But if it's going to cost $700 + to repair then not worth it. The wheels look nice though supposedly made by Zipp but old technology.

Where did you get a new G3 for $600??????? Cheapest I can find is $780 from the Wiggle website.toolonglegs wrote:My G3 cost me Au $600 for the new hub and another $250 for a good wheel build. In January this year.
Was $250 for a brand new wheel - Would installing the unit onto an existing wheelset be cheaper?
Called my mate and told him to take back the wheelset... Going to cost an additional $200 according to Monza in Melbourne to Recalibrate so suppose getting a new unit would be better. I think the carbon wheelset made me think it was worth it.

My trusty 4.5 year old elite+ on my 3kg training wheels does not calibrate with my Garmin only gives it ID. But the numbers are very close to G3.
