Cyclocross Bike

Postby Je » Sat Nov 22, 2014 6:59 pm

Hey guys,

Friend of mine is offering a new giant TCX advanced 0 for $3400.. Is that a good price despite the $5600 RRP.

Only downside I see is the mechanical disc brakes rather then hydraulic due the the sram recall..

Any thoughts ?

There was a trek Boone 9 for sale on facebooks bicycle market (I think). Size 54 and similar money.. Will have to search for it again if interested but was a very good price

How old is his bike? Had a quick look on BikeExchange and found a brand new one for $4K whilst other prices were closer to $5K.

Its two rides old and checking it out seems like new.. I am keen but the only downside I see is the mechanical BB7 brakes

did he buy it before or after the recall?

if it was before the recall, and had hydraulic brakes fitted from standard then they should have been replaced by now...
if it was after, then i'm 99% sure Giant dropped the price on the TCX's to make up the difference between the hydraulic brake setup and the cable setup.

unless you're dead set on the Advanced 0, i'd pick up an Advanced 1 for ~2k, and spend the other 1500 upgrading it to hydro and better wheels.

Yeah seems he got it after the recall fitted with the cheap avid brakes..

Not many Advanced 1 (2014) available in Perth sadly..

ah. you can get a 2015 Advanced 1 for around 3700... that comes with Ultegra RS785 hydro brakes.

yes they are. both 2014 and 2015 advanced frames have provisions for Di2.

Thanks Mitchy

Just called my local giant store and they said the TCX advanced will be going up in price on the 1st to $4k.
I don't know if that was a tactic to make me buy on the spot or not as i told them another store were willing to give me a 20% discount once I put a deposit down.

plausible due to the aussie dollar not being as strong as it has been. have heard of a few new bikes coming out at higher than expected prices for that reason.
