Vredestein Fortezza Tricomp tyres in 25c?

Postby SheikYerbouti » Thu Nov 27, 2014 9:10 pm

I keep reading about how good the Fortezza Tricomps are and want to try some on my spare wheels.
I'm 90kg and ride Schwalbe Duranos in 25c and they're good - no punctures in a year. Lately they're feeling a little sluggish though.
I'm thinking at my weight 25c is the best, but can't find these tyres in that width. Am I missing something?

I wonder if they are discontinued?

Fortezza Senso All Weather look to be a replacement though

The Quattro's are more durable if you can find them.

I just ordered a pair of Senso All Weather (be careful as there is also an ultralight version) from Ribble - way cheaper than anywhere else I could find, about $32 each!

Cheers, Andy

They have twin packs of the 25c Senso All Weather tyres for $64.07, after the 11% discount that's $28.51 each! Bargain.

I use Senso All weather 25's and find them even better than the old Fortezza TriComps . Grip good , roll well , comfortable and good puncture protection.

Ha. Almost jinx. I got a pair of 25s, a podium water bottle, warm socks and winter windproof gloves (ready for next year) for $97...

I had a set of Fortezza's and they were great, until a rear tube blew out the side of one of them. The front one is still on there but and is a very comfortable tyre.
Now I have a Freccia on the rear and don't think much of it. Heavier, feels slower and already squaring off.

Will probably give the Senso's a go next.

So the Senso's arrived pretty quickly. Ordered Thursday delivered in Hobart the following Friday. Now I have a bit of a dilemma, I've been running my original Bontrager R2s at 90/100 which seemed to work fine. This was at the lower end of the pressure range on the tyre (90 was the stated minimum) but 100 on the rear fitted on the recommended "drop" curve for 25mm tyres. The Vredesteins have min/max on the tyres as 115/175 which is abviously above what I was running at.

So what do I do? Run at the pressures I was using or run something like 115/125 and see how it goes? I usually defer to manufacturers on these things but they seem high pressures for 25mm tyres.

Cheers,

Andy

I've never had any issues with running Tricomps at 100psi, yet to buy Senso's though. TBH I've never checked the recommended pressure's on the Tricomps so I don't know if they are any different. I seriously doubt that you could get 175 psi into the tyre so I wouldn't be paying too close attention to those figures.

My 23's say min 120psi but I run them at 90-100 all day long.

I run my Senso 25's at 90 front/100 rear , I weigh 75 kg and ride crappy chip seal roads.

Decided to play it safe and rode my usual route home with the tyres at 115/125 and I have to say they felt great. I don't think they roll any faster than my Bonty R2s but I certainly had the feeling of a smoother ride :D

I think I'll leave them as is for the rest of the week to get over the placebo effect and then decide if I want to try different pressures.

I'm a happy Chappy :D

Mine came by standard Royal Mail parcel. I suspect it's a bit hit and miss with delivery times at this time of year plus you might have hit the weekend so it ends up being slower to get out of the UK - hang in there I'm sure they're not far away :D

First ride on these new tyres this morning, pretty happy with them. Rolled well, no hassles on a rough patch of gravel and debris, and felt pretty comfortable.

Why run such high pressures? Your only increasing your chances of punctures and cuts, as well as slowing yourself down on coarse chip roads.

I agree with SSS - reckon those recommended pressures might be valid on smooth surfaced crit circuits. Anything else 85/95 tops. I think there is much greater drag variance from hubs anyway, and a little more comfort goes a long way on rides 3+ hours.

New tyres are always fun though ! [emoji51][emoji106]
