Re: Width of tyre

Something like these?
We'll need a few more details eg. type of bike, frame, type of riding.
Chances are if it fits 32mm it will fit 40mm but let us know what the bike is.

The frame & fork limits how wide you can go. Is there plenty of clearance currently with the 35mm tyres, if nope, don't go wider, if there is you should be able to go up. Alternatively go ask a question on Treks Q & A

My daughter has the 7.3fx - same frame, different components. She has 32mm tyres and we fitted SKS mudguards for her. Looking at the frame there seems like there'd be room for a 40mm tyre, but squeezy.
I woudn't want to run the mudguards with it. I wouldn't want to get in too much mud.

what bike is it? (model/ make)
Wider the tire = more work! (thinner the better for efficiency)
700x28 good for commuting/touring etc...
Don't fall for "Tractor" (USA trend) Bigger is Better....Why do you want bigger than 35c?

Maybe because he is riding rough roads, it is more comfortable, he wants better traction, or he is carrying heavy loads. Not everyone is riding a lightweight roadie for a commute on good sealed roads carrying just a wallet and a mobile phone.

Add to that better directional stability over cracks, irregularities and formed edges.il padrone wrote:Maybe because he is riding rough roads, it is more comfortable, he wants better traction, or he is carrying heavy loads.

Still got the scars from my previous senses of adventure. That's why I run Marathon 50s on the wet bike.warthog1 wrote:Where's ya sense of adventure

Don't tyres only come in 28 x 1/2" ? Then there's those froggy 700C things which should be called 28 x 1 5/8. Now I know some upstart whippersnappers have gone to funky narrow racing tyres in 27 x 1 1/4" but we'd rather not associate with those types.

Relax, it's just the pendulum swinging back. (I ran 19mm tyres for a while. Tubulars, so I still have some fillings left ).
At the end of the day I do agree that 32mm to 35mm is ideal for most things on sensible bikes.
