Fulcrum racing zero

Postby fat and old » Sat Dec 06, 2014 5:31 am

Any experiences? Quality? What they roll like? Stiffness? Serviceable? Braking surface?

Thanks :)

They are fantastic wheelsets - I've got two sets and they roll well (ceramic bearings), are light and are stiff enough, even for us larger-sized specimens!

Servicing and adjustment is good and the brake tracks wear okay - no more or less than other wheelsets I've had.

cheers

The Zero is a quality wheelset made by Campagnolo and is roughly equivalent to the Shamal.

Yeah great wheels. Probably on par with the Campy Shamals (Shamals prob a touch in front). Same hub I think as the Shamals with the ceramic bearings). Really nice decals since they ditched the grey ones ( got a set if grey zeros but can be a little hard to match up the colour scheme on my bikes). The newer zeros look great though.
Lots of secondhand ones going cheap like half price if you look around. Or cycling express has the new 2015 on sale.

Edit: takes me longer to type than Ron. :-)

I just yesterday received a set of 2015 Fulcrum Zero's. Haven't taken them for a decent ride yet, but first thing I noticed was how quiet they are. My old Racing 5s had nice clicky freehub sound when freewheeling which I like, but the Zero's are almost silent. How were the previous model Zero's for noise?

Not sure yet if I will pull the freehub body off to remove some of the grease or just persist with quiet wheels.

My Zeros are as noisy as anything. Be glad you have quieter ones I reckon so you can have some peace...

Once the hubs loosen up they will lose their "stealth" properties - it took mine 400km or so to start sounding nice.

They'll get louder as they wear in! They sound grouse...

I current ride a set of Giant PSLR-1 wheels (they say its equivalent to the Dura Ace c24s). Do you guys reckon the Zeros would make a noticeable improvement?

Anything is an improvement over the Giant wheels from what I've heard and read.

typo : its Giant P-SLR1

you might have it confused with P-SL1 or P-SL0

That's a deep dish (aero) wheelset so it can't be compared to the Dura Ace C24.

I've had last year's Zeros for a bit over a year now and they're my daily commuting wheels. Have been bloody awesome and I highly recommend them.

- Did 250 to 400km a week
- weighed 82 to 88kg
- smooth to very rough vibrating road
- have only had 1 service to the rear wheel that went slightly out of true
- front wheel is still 100% true
- used 23, 25 and now currently 28mm tires

Don't know about the 2015 ones but my 2013 wheels are bloody noisy but I like them like that

I wouldn't buy zero for every day use based on my perspective of 3's, which I've seen develop multiple spoke breakages within 20,000km.

My mistake. They look a good wheelset. Not like the lower end Giant wheels. I can't see why you would want to ditch them.
