Wheelset with Screw on Cassette 5 Speed

Postby gromek » Mon Dec 08, 2014 9:38 pm

My girlfriend has a 700c Reid ladies bike and I want to replace the wheelset as its super rusted !
Don't mind what it is but id like to upgrade her from what she's got anyways while I'm buying, but id like it to be cheap
Is there anywhere I can still get something like this ?
Something second hand would be ideal (some old school Alloy Araya wheels or something ?) but new would be sweet too as long as it doesn't cost more than the whole bike
I've tried my luck on eBay and the rest but can't find anything at all

Maybe this Verify what the OLD of the frame is using a steel ruler preferably by removing rear wheel and measuring between the dropouts. If it's 130mm your sweet, however SJS only sell 6 speed screw on cassettes. Maybe a bit of elbow grease will clean up the old cassette?

It will be cheaper and much better to go 7 speeds.

Second hand alloy 7 speed hub wheels are dirt cheap on ebay. You just need to buy a cheap shifter.

Any screw on 5 speed you are able to find will be much heavier than "modern" 7 speed.
