Giant Seek

Postby VR38 » Tue Dec 09, 2014 10:12 pm

My partner has started riding on weekends on the pathways and I have been joining on my Dual Suspension trail bike with near lock out on both front and rear.. I am starting to feel a little sill riding a proper dually trail bike on the roads so looking for something cheap to ride once a week with the partner..

Noticed the 2014 Giant Seek 3 going for good deals just under $400 but they are out of stock of my size and the only other model is the 2014 Giant Seek 1 (AT) $660 which seems ok other than the horrible white tyres.. (runs hydro brakes, alfine gears)

At that price point are there any better bikes?

The other choice is save the dosh and get over riding a $4k dually on the pathways for the one day a week.

You could always just buy another set of wheels with a set of grampa white wall tyres so you fit in :-D

Definitely N+1 time. Something that will complement your other halfs steed for extra style points ;-)

Around the area i live atm it's quite common to see people popping round to the supermarket on top end DH bikes, Demos, Glorys, Norco A-Lines and the like. For the limited use you're looking at, i'd get a hybrid either 2nd hand or from K Mart.

A Seek 1 at that price is outstanding value actually. Talk to the retailer you will find they may even swap the tyres out for a black set of narrower tyres they were going to do that for me when I was looking at one.

I have a '14 Seek 3 almost a year ago for $500. Ended up converting it to 3x10 with XT gear, Shimano hydro brakes + F&R 203mm rotors. The upgrade I think was about $250-300 odd and better spec than the 1 and exactly how I like it. However, I must say the original Tektro brakes were rubbish even when I moved to 203mm rotors which I thought would cure the lack of initial bite (pads are metallic which explains it). The drivetrain work OK. Tough, reliable but I had a few 10%+ hill to climb with 25-30kg of child, child seat, F&R rack and children paraphernalia that mandated the lowest gearing possible.

2014 Giant Seek 3 going for just under $400 and 2014 Giant Seek 1 at $660. May I know where you see that price? I am interested in any of them but cannot find any in Victoria or online store.
