Giant defy advanced pro 0 alternatives???
Postby rusty842 » Sun Mar 15, 2015 11:12 pm
I don't race and this won't change as golf is my sport. casual rides for up to 5 hour rides. Mostly 2 hour rides early morning.
MUST HAVES
Hydraulic disc brakes
Di2 - ultegra is fine
Endurance fit
The rest I'm really open. Hoping to keep it under 5k.
Is there anything against this bike or other alternatives I should look at.
Thank you in advance

Has your three must haves, and comes in well under budget, including a decent (albeit a little heavy) wheelset.

edit: there's also the Cannondale Synapse Carbon Ultegra Di2 Disc
which can be had for under $5k

9kg! Sure you could drop some weight with lighter wheels but it still will be heavy. The Defy Advanced Pro 0 is 7.9kg. Pity the OP wants Di2 since the Defy Advanced SL1 is 7.4kg (thanks to a lighter frame and carbon rims).jasonc wrote:I'm looking at the same bike rusty

that site reckons the medium is 8.0Kgs without pedals
So the Boardman doesn't sound as portly especially considering it has 760g of tyres

They'll all come in a disk option, in various specs and levels, and most should have a Di2 option.
I guess what one fits best / you find most comfortable, which one you like the look of the most, will play a big part...
The other - the Giant seems to offer a great value for money proposition in this case. It meets all of your requirements and still looks a pretty awesome bike. I dont know that you'll get the same level of spec, for the same $$$$ price as the Giant... The others might cost a bit more. But they are options all the same.

The rest like the roubaix are priced a little higher or don't have the right configuration I want.
The board man is more a cyclocross bike and I might go down the path of getting a mountain bike so want this purely for road rides.

So, below 4000 for defy, then you can add powermeter, all for less than $5000.

I agree. I love my Domane. But for the price to get Di2 on the Domane, you can buy 2 of the giant bikes.....Calvin27 wrote:The trek domane would be my pick. The big thing it has on the giant is thru axles front and rear. It's much stiffer than qr but if this is your first disc brake bike, the disc alignment is the real benefit. You don't always get the correct alignment with qr, but it works all the time with thru axles.

3k for the groupset ?M34NM0F0 wrote:It's a shame that you need to replace the rear dérailleur to get a 32 on the back. Was hoping to convince the missus that I needed one of these for the PCGC. A mate of mine has just bought a Roubaix that comes already touting the 11-32 (but not in Di2) For some reason they want nearly $3000 for the Di2 model.

If I get a Medium Cage Derailleur Di2 and 11-32 Cassette, this should work, eh?

Doesn't appear that the frame & fork are through-axle compatible, so you can't do it.rusty842 wrote:With the synapse ultegra di2 can you easily change the quick release to through axles or do you need a new wheel set completely. ?
