Trek 520 Considering Purchase -- How are the wheels?

Postby DavoReils » Sat Apr 11, 2015 9:43 am

Hello everyone,

I am thinking about buying a Trek 520 Disc for commuting and touring around Australia.
However, I have heard terrible reviews of Shimano M475 hubs, which come stock on the bike.

I am also looking at a Kona Sutra, which seems to be much better spec'd (wheels laced to Deore Hubs), but at a higher price.

Has anyone had any experience with this bike, in particular the wheels? Anyone had a postive experience with wheels laced to M475 hubs?

With a small amount of attention to periodic maintenance there is nothing wrong with the M475 hubs. Most of the internals are the same as the "better" Deore hubs.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.
