Need help choosing new 11spd Di2 bike

Postby TurboShel » Sun Apr 12, 2015 8:24 pm

I need some help finding what options are available in a new performance road bike 11sp Di2 electronic (probably Ultegra as Dura Ace seems too excy). Budget <$10K.
Not sure which crankset (have not used compact before) but want 11-28 cassette. My 10sp has been 53/39 12-25 mechanical dura ace but I've just this month swapped to 11-28. Seems everything is compact now anyway but nothing is standard - all options I'm seeing. I would like carbon clinchers about 30mm. Have seen the Giant Liv Envie Advance Pro 0 but it has 55mm rims which for me is useless. For racing I will swap over to my Zipp 303s or 404s so would like to get the bike with decent training wheels that are easy to swap over. I will want a women's narrow bar with short/shallow reach, and a short crank 165 or 167.5 and small frame (currently on 48). I am 157cm. Not necessary after WSD as I believe I have shorter legs and I already own a good road seat I can swap over (Selle SMP). Basically, the Giant Liv Envie Advanced Pro 0 ticks most of the boxes but hubby isn't keen on Giant at all and our LBS says the frames are not good enough. Really? What is the problem with the Envi other than the wheels? I went looking to find some alternatives but if I go Trek will not be able to afford Dura Ace Di2, and can't find a Specialised in the right config or price. I don't have much knowledge of all the brands/models available right now and would like some assistance on what you get for your money from the various brands that have a bike that fits my needs. Please offer some suggestions for me to look at. Many thanks.

Colnago CLD ? http://colnago.com/cld-2-2/?lang=am" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Fuji Supreme http://www.performancebike.com/bikes/Pr ... 20__400320" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Cannondale http://www.cannondale.com/nam_en/2014/b ... ltegra-di2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

A lot of women yesterday were riding Colnago in the B2B. If you say you race why not chat to the other women racing and see what they are using.

Earlier versions of the Envie (and its brother Propel) were criticised, not without merit, for pretty ordinary brakes, an issue which has been addressed for the current model. Anything else said against it is typical anti-Giant snobbery.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

Thank you Rockford, I've taken a look at those. The Fuji Supreme 1.1 isn't in the Australian lineup for 2015 but they seems good value, will check them out more. I'm also now considering the Lapierre aircode, Cervelo S3.

I'm confused about whether to write off the lovely disc bikes which I've had confirmed are not permitted in the races I might potentially wish to do. Although currently my focus is triathlon and I'm all set on a TT for that. I really like the Specialised bikes but all their di2 bikes are disc.

I am not really after a WSD bike mind, due to my geometry and fact I have a seat, and can easily request narrow bars.

Why not build one up yourself?

DA DI2 groups can be had for $2400, ultegra DI2 for $1500, or you can mix and match for an inbetween price. You can also specifiy exactly what cassette / chainring / crank length you want.
With a $2000 set of wheels and $500 cockpit / seating budget (again - your choice!) that leaves $5k - 6k for a frame which you leave you plenty of options, even if the frame is bought locally (which I would for warranty purposes).

It's quite satisifying building up yourself too, and if you can't a good bike shop will put it together for a few hundred dollars.

This is what I'm doing currently and with your kind of budget the world is your oyster with frame selection unless you want to go crazy ie. C60/F8 etc

I'm not a Giant rider but the LBS who said their frames aren't good enough clearly had his own agenda in mind.
