Hi all,
Just wondering the difference between the tt/Tri bikes out there.
Is there that much of a difference between Giant Trinity and Specialized shiv or a trek concept?
Yes in regards to componentry but in terms of frame/aerodynamics etc surely there cant be that big a difference bw them?
Certainly not enough to warrant $1000 between similar models i.e. 2014 shiv (10spd 105) $3200 and 2015 trinity (11spd ultegra) $2300

Without being specific, some are Uci compliant, other would not be. Things such as a 3:1 ratio on width/depth of tubes / posts/bars/ forks is a start.
If you are racing under cycling Australia then Uci compliance is important. Otherwise it is not so important.
From memory, the trek concept needs to have a few mods to get uci compliant.

Not going into specifics between brands/models, but for TT & Tri there are some differences.
Time Trial bikes are governed by UCI technical rules, which are stricter than those governing triathlon. UCI rules dictate that no component of the bike may exceed the 3:1 chord ratio; the width of a handlebar/frame tube/etc cannot be more than three times the thickness of the component. The forward tip of the saddle, measured by a vertical line, must not be less than 50mm behind the bottom bracket centre. There are also some limitations around aerobar rise, but I can't recall the exact ruling. Tri bikes are not bound by any of thse rules.
Specialized produce two versions of the Shiv to suit the different rules. Giant's Trinity in stock form is not UCI legal; the "nosecone" below the stem is considered a fairing, which is also UCI-illegal even though it's integeal for supporting the handlebar, and also causes the headtube junction area to exceed the 3:1 ratio. To meet UCI rules, Giant offer an aftermarket fork and lower stem with reduced nosecone.

I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.
