hi guys.
I have borrowed a Giant TCR Advance SL bike from a friend who is keen for me to purchase it as he has now bought a new bike. It is the 2008 model all original (as far as I can tell) and in very good condition. He said make an offer, but I am pretty new to all this and don't know how much is fair and reasonable, or where I can do some research... Any ideas?
Cheers in advance, Scotty from Perth

I don't think the SL came in until 2009 so you might want to check again the year model (although I think Giant had an Advanced Team bike similar to the SL in 2008). Going by the colours is probably the best method in determining year I've sometimes found.

Maybe monitor Ebay and Gumtree and see if anything similar comes up. Ballpark maybe $1000 maybe ?? that's without doing the sums or checking around. You might be better off going with something newer for that but really does depend on a lot of things.

I'd also go around the $1000 mark, depending on the wheels and condition, if it's from 2008-2009ish.

Correct. Giant did a bit of name shuffling with the 2009-model (late '08 release) frame update; the Advanced SL is the direct successor to the Advanced of '05-08, while the Advanced name got "downgraded" to the level of the earlier "Composite" models.rodneycc wrote:I don't think the SL came in until 2009 so you might want to check again the year model (although I think Giant had an Advanced Team bike similar to the SL in 2008). He'll likely have an idea of what he wants for it so put some onus back onto him. Tell him you're interested and ask what his best price to you is. If you remain interested, then investigate to determine reasonable value or to make the cheeky offer .Shamozl wrote:hi guys.

Be careful when considering the bike value and offer price. Even though a bike can be well cared for and is in a very good condition aesthetically, some parts, particularly in the drive train, will have worn and you need to determine how much 'life' in those parts remain and the cost of replacement for worn parts. This is particularly true for a 2008/2009 bike.
It's not always easy buying from a friend so try to avoid being pressured into buying because he's a friend.
Good luck; hope you both get a good deal.
