Veloflex Record tubular - where to buy

Postby mikesbytes » Thu Jul 02, 2015 4:30 pm

I've got a Veloflex Record single that I want to replace. Any suggestions on where to buy one?

Found it on Wiggle http://www.this link is broken.au/veloflex-recor ... ular-tyre/, didn't find it elsewhere

One? Why "one" ?

There's a lot of choice at the $150 (or even 74euro) each price point. Especially at 22mm

Because I only have one wheel that needs replacing. I have Veloflex Record on the other wheel

75 euro = $110 aussie. That's where I expected the price to be. Do they post to Australia? What is the postage?

I've found this one, which appears to be a heavier version, presumably more rolling resistance http://www.bikebug.com/veloflex-extreme ... 30329.html

Advantage for me with bikebug is that I live 200mtrs from the mail order distribution centre

Thought so. Veloflex does seem to be a little thin on the ground. :(

Perhaps I should just bit the bullet and buy the heavier version

Its for a front wheel, I use the same one for Road TT's and velodrome, including wooden tracks.

Also noticed how light the Vittoria track tyre is. 160gms for 22mm and cheaper, however could I use for TT's, I'm guessing not. http://www.probikekit.com.au/bicycle-ty ... 76985.html

And while I'm at it, what about glue? Its a carbon rim

Ribble has the Record 22mm still avail. at AU $103.22 + postage.

http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/road-t ... elxtuba300

I use Vittoria Mastik 1 glue over my carbon and alloy rims with no perceivable issues, that said, I prob. don't get enough heat into the carbon rims to worry about it.

Thanks open roader, I've ordered that tyre :)

Couldn't buy cement/glue from ribble, all the brands aren't available for overseas orders

So now I need to order the cement/glue from another site, or can I walk into a Sydney shop and buy it?

Depends if you only use a particular brand... I'd phone first!

I swear by Vittoria Mastik One - I found one not so local store that stocks it, so I buy tubes every time I go past to make sure I never run short.

Pushy's just spammed me a week or to ago to say they have Schwalbe tins back in stock. Moyura have Tubasti Rim Cement in stock, according to their website

Thanks Guys,

I've never glued one, Bundy did them for me before.

Such a small purchase, hardly worth paying for postage

I live 200mtrs from the BikeBug mail distribution point, I'll ask if I can pick it up. Otherwise I'll be driving past Cell, I'll check there shop price.

I get my boxes box of mastik 1 tubes from BikeBug, they come by road courier every time.

They are flamable material and thus cannot / should not be air mailed hence unavail. for OS customers.

Gluing up tubs is easy if you take your time and have the right sized brush.

Put the order into Bikebug and they now have free pickup, so I walk around to them in the morning. That's real handy for a small order

Heck, being just down the road from the BikeBug depot would be a deadly situation for me!

Grab yourself some artist's brushes and acetone if the rim is brand spankers. I prefer 8mm round brushes or 10mm flat brushes. The bristles get gluggy and separate whilst applying the glue and loose a bit of dexterity/accuarcy so a smaller head brush with plenty of time to take care makes a thinner, more even layer.

Walked around and picked up the glue, pretty handy that place. The single hasn't been dispatched yet

Suppose the next task is to remove the existing single and clean off the existing glue. As this is the first time I've done it, it's a learning experience

Have fun. Take your time. Get glue to the edges.

And ignore the American panic merchants.

+1

I've done this just one on a pair of wheels with 11 year old glue which was visibly brittle and flaking off, I reckon 5-6+ year old well applied glue is good to re-glue straight up.

Yep.

If it's a dead tyre use a blade and cut it up to get easier peel access.

Yes but carefully. Have heard in the worst case the glue has taken away some carbon when tearing off the tyre.*

*Never happened to me.

Yikes!

I guess anything is possible - uber brute arm strength, super adhesive tubular glue / tubular shellack or even poor quality carbon epoxy bonding.

Yes, peel it slowly and gradually, like the the glue up - take some time over it.

It's got a puncture, which appears to be caused by a safety pin. If it comes off in one piece, I might have a go at patching it and if successful, it can become a spare
