6800/5700 brake and front derailluer compatability
Postby Bentnose » Thu Jul 16, 2015 3:16 pm
Will a 6800 front derailleur work with 10 spd 5700 brifters and 10 spd chain? Also the 6800 brakes, I understand there was some leverage change at some point.

All fine, despite the long derailleur arm suggesting otherwise.
The big change in brake leverage came between 7800/its relatives and 7900/6700/5700. Although the caliper pivots are redseigned for 9000/6800/5800 to give a bit more "kick" to the action, the lever compatibility is fine.

I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

Beautiful, means I can start to upgrade to 11 spd Ultegra by stealth, missus won't notice then.

You will need to fit the rest of the bits at the same time; there's no compatibility between 10 & 11-sp. shifters & RDs, and there's also the wider cassette & compatible freehub body to consider. Cranks aren't fussy.

Oh I know that but if I get some 6800 brakes and front derailleur the wife won't notice, then later I sneak in a set of cranks, she won't notice, later a set of 11 spd wheels, have the rest come sporadically and convert to 11spd, she won't notice I reckon, its a 3 year plan.

I'm still running 9 spd at the moment, that's how patient I am, I figured I should use the 10 spd parts I have at some point, though yeah, I can see me skipping 11spd the way I'm going.
