Replacing C50 Spokes

Postby denwol » Mon Jul 27, 2015 2:10 pm

Hi,
I would like to replace spokes on my 7900 c50 wheels.
Can I use bladed spokes of the same length from DT Swiss straight through spokes or do I need to find Shimano spokes?

Thanks

You should be able to use other straight-pull spokes of the same length.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

Out of curiosity, why are you replacing spokes?

Stick with the Shimano nipples, but replace if possible; the thread is the same as normal 2mm diameter spokes. They're bigger than normal nipples, so the rims are drilled accordingly. I'd have concerns about generic nipples pulling through & destroying the rim in the process.

I bought a set of rims which had spoke damage from a chain/rear derailed mishap.
The bloke replaced the spokes with normal spokes, 7850 spokes I believe, because he couldn't get hold of 7900 bladed spokes.
So, in the name of aesthetics and so I can gain an extra two hairs of a fraction I thought I would change the normal spokes to bladed spokes.

7850 spokes are also bladed, and depending on model within the family not necessarily compatible with 7900.
