I hadn't really thought of it like that X, but yes you're right (I'd already read the relevant training bible first).

Oh crap, there might be an outbreak of agreement and respect on BNA. ADMINS KILL IT KILL IT!!!

Cheers mate.

For those who are umming and arring about the books, if you can't commit to reading them and applying them, OR pay for an ongoing coach, you have absolutely no reason to spend the money on a power meter. A power meter is a simple tool, with very very complicated processes to get something useful from it. The data is about 10 times more complex than a HRM, and changes constantly if you are developing as a rider. 20 hours to read a book worth 15 bucks vs spending 1500 bucks on a bunch of meaningless numbers on your Garmin?

^ Absolutely. I spent 6 months or so reading all these books before finally making the PM purchase a few weeks ago.

Good to hear everyone is getting on well with their Powertap P1s so far

No power spikes. Hmm damage. It took quite a bit of alloy off, but I can still access the battery cover. I might add that the circuit I did this on is a hot dog course and clipping is reasonably common. I have done it on SPD's as well. Perhaps I am just a hubbard rider  I wouldn't see it as an issue for general riding.
nickobec wrote:Unlike ft I have been using Look Keo pedals for a while, so no issues clipping in I don't find the cleats slippy and fragile(again been using Keo's for a while)
My comparison is to yellow SPD SL cleats.
nickobec wrote:PT Cleats are Wellgo RC7, they are identical (except Wellgos have their name on them) both are marked RC7 and are $10 a pair from Torpedo7
Thanks Nick, I will be on to buying some. $10 vs ~$35 for SPD – well that is a winner.

Trying to find a pair of these in Perth is impossible.

Looks to be a nation-wide shortage aswell :/

I paid for mine about a month ago from pushys and they keep pushing back the dates. Expected in January now

Interesting that their website claims 15/12/2015 availability.

I've done a ring around this week and distributor says no units will be available until January.

Looks like the website estimate was more accurate than their information from email. Just have been told my pedals are now shipping! Website also says they've got a few others available. This is pushys btw

Yep I ordered one lastnight from Pushys also.

I made the executive decision on monday night.
Yesterday they came in stock at BikeBug, 2 hours later they had sold out to my dissapointment.
Lastnight at about 8pm WST they came in stock at Pushys and I grabbed one quickly with express post.
Should have it by friday.

Is express post extra? Can't remember what the options are since I ordered so long ago.

Like an extra $15

I actually bought mine via their ebay store since they were offering 10% off everything on ebay yesterday.
In true pushys fashion though they had the ebay price at a $100odd premium so with the express postage I saved myself $20 :D

I bought some Look cleat covers for like $9. They fit the P1 cleats.

Hmm I'm regretting not getting express now. Although standard post hopefully won't be too much longer.

I think mine worked out $1500 as there was a site wide coupon code at the time.

Yeah nice. I was hoping to get a nice voucher like that but the P1's are selling like hotcakes and everywhere else (including Bikebug) are saying no stock until late January so I jumped on them.
Super excited

Definitely looks the goods. I think I'll need a bigger 8mm Allen key though. Does Bunnings have good ones??

Don't know, probably short ones in a pack for $30

I picked up a Park Tools 8mm for $8 off Wiggle the other night.

I just ordered a $20 bikebug parktools handled one. I'm guessing it should arrive around same time as pedals

Quick update resolved the "power meter software mismatch" issue

It appears my pedals were shipped with different versions of firmware

It is a pain to update the firmware
1 requires modern iphone or ipad
2 each pedal's firmware has to be updated individually
3 connection kept dropping between the bikeshop's ipad and the pedals

First attempt, failed after managing to update one pedal's firmware only. I missed the app move back to the first pedal, after a failed connection updating the second pedal. and got firmware up to date message (so I assume it was updated on second pedal)

Second attempt last week, far more cautious and it worked after a couple of failed connections. No more "power meter software mismatch" errors.

No power spikes

I'm guessing there is no way to check the firmware (not update) without an iphone/ipad?

I'm hoping this has been done already as I don't have either.

Correct

But you don't need to worry unless your garmin gives you errors

Mine has had no errors or spikes to date - running a very tatty Garmin 500.

Checked these out today in a LBS.

very well finished bit of kit, but were priced at $1599.00

the BIG question is if the two power meters in each pedal are worth the value?
Of course the moving ability of these pedals from bike to bike is a big plus.

Haven't seen any LBS with them. I asked a couple and they all tried to sell me vectors
