An FTP test hopefully has zero deadspots in the averages. There is a reason I chose Bellbird, and not Springwood or Bowen or Bobbo or Berowra or Galston - you need to get a max effort for 20 minutes. There is nothing to stop you going up Bellbird, Centennial Park is a choice of necessity, not preference. If you can't get to Bellbird, there are a few velodromes around Sydney. Flat, empty ;)

Was this replying to Crawf or me? I can't see his post anymore so can't tell.

I could get to Bellbird. But how steep is it?

Quote marks FTW.

Dunno, easy in 34/28... Hurts but manageable. I have been using 39/25 but I am OK with spinning 50rpm. I did 19 minutes to the bottom of Wark. Close enough.

Although more than 20 minutes can be worthwhile if you're unpracticed at pacing and can actually ramp up further at the end. That way you can take the best 20.

And here lies the corpse of the 20min FTP test... Maximum means maximum. A hill like Bellbird is challenging and repeatable. And you can pull over if you need to spew after 20 minutes.

I would prefer a MAP test but I don't have a kickr or a wattbike.

I did 2 x 60 mins on the velodrome the other day at about 80% threshold. It was interesting. Started to lose consistency in the second half of the second rep and cadence dropped from 99 to 96. It wasn't boring but did require a certain concentration.

That's impressive concentration/endurance! I did 3 x 20 today indoors. Not really sure what my ftp is anymore but it was probably only about at 75% and I was definitely struggling by the end of it.

Were you on a track bike?

CAAD10 on an outdoor velodrome. My large chainring is slipping so I was looking for a safe ride for the December Strava Gran Fondo :-)

If a wheel based PM suits your purposes, its a good deal!

I just mean if you don't mind having power on only one wheel its a good buy. For me I wanted to be able to switch my power meter between bikes and also use on the trainer. Therefore was willing to pay the premium for the P1

Yep, I swap my P1's over several times a week. So easy it's ridiculous.

Now have matching scrapes on my pedals, this morning's crit, chasing hard through through a left hander, touched down, horrible noise, knew exactly what is was, kept going. Caught the rider ahead, no real damage to the pedal.

If you manage to scrape the orange caps let me know, 'cause that means you have got the bike really heeled over in the corner!

Hi Guys,

I'm new here. Live in India and no powertap stuff is available here. Planning on ordering one from Australia. A friend will carry it back for me. Any suggestions for a good reliable online store for the P1s?

I saw this. Is this reliable? Good price?
