2015 Campagnolo Record: value?

Postby marckietan » Thu Nov 26, 2015 9:43 am

hi BMers,

A quick question and I hope this is not being rude as I am genuinely seeking an opinion?

I have bought a bike with a 2015 Campy Record Groupset:
It looks stunning except that I use Shimano at the moment and would like to stay on it. At the risk of starting a religious discussion:

- should i stay on the 2015 Campy Record? How does it run? Parts do seem expensive but that 4 bolt carbon crank is a thing of beauty!
- if I do sell it, is there a ready market for it? How much would a full 2015 Campy Record group set go for (roughly - and a range would be great). They seem to retail for about 2230 at Bikebug.

As you can tell, I am tempted to keep it but if I could get a decent amount for it, I would probably prefer to sell it. Condition is excellent. the Crankset is essentially brand new as the previous owner used SRM.

thanks!

Unless you are wanting to go Di2, I'd stick with the Campy Record imo. I really don't know what you would get secondhand for it.

Another thing, your wheels will be Campy freehub so you will need to run the Campy cassette anyway if you want to use the same wheels on a Shimano setup (all 11 speed wheels are compatible with each other running the appropriate cassette to the freehub). Sounds a lot of mucking around to me for the same ride so I'd stick with it...

Not ideal running a Campag cassette in a Shimano system; for some weird reason, Campag sprocket spacing is uneven across the cassette, so some gears won't properly align with the equally-spaced Shimano indexing points.

Record stuff is mighty good, it really comes down to whether you like the shifter design or not.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

Thanks guys. All great info....agree that this Record stuff is awesome but my two other bikes are Shimano and I would like to see if I can somehow sell the gruppo and try out di2.

cheers

Why not just pick a price you're happy with and try and sell it? If it sells then go di2.

I have just bought a bike with campy chorus,

and still getting use to it.

unless you are running Durace i am surprise you want to ditch the record, it is supposed to be very refined. I know the change up is a bit weird to get use to being on the inside of the hoods (i like sram best) but the way it changes and trims just feels of quality.

I do keep pressing the down shift to go up and have to think about what i am doing, but it is only practice.

funny you say this Duck, as i have read a few articles where they are saying the 11speeds are now cross compatible, unlike the 10 speeds

It's not as far out of whack as 10-sp. due to the space constraint for fitting the extra gear in, but it's still not an exact alignment. Campag use three different sprocket spacings through the cassette, for reasons known only to them.

To add to this, I used a Shimano cassette with Super Record for a few months. I could tune all the gears to work perfectly except one, which always seemed to be the 9th sprocket... On to full Campy group now (new wheelset) and the shifting is (all but) perfect.

I found it easy to adapt to Campy from Shimano, however after using Shimano again for a couple of days (i.e. my wet weather bike), I sometimes try and push my Campy brake lever to change up... I don't seem to have the same muscle memory going the other way though.

probably to stop you buying the $40 105 cassette or the $70 ultegra cassette. The cheapest you are allowed to spend is $120 on a 11 speed campag casette

I'm finding a lot lately that in theory things should work but in practice they are not as good or smooth as I thought they would be! Its only really until you test it live in the flesh you get the real info...
