Newbie purchase advice pl

Postby melbournemum » Fri Nov 27, 2015 3:07 pm

Hi
I am after some brand and purchase advice please

I have been shopping around for a bike to help me train for a mini tri.

I have settled on a flat bar bike- that was the advice from 5 different shops.

I am an awkward ladies figure, with shorter legs than torso than the average woman, so tend to only fit on certain bikes.

Anyway, wanted to know what you thought of these 3 options:

Specialized vita/ sirrus base model 2015 or 2016 http://www.specialized.com/au/en-au/bik ... rus/sirrus" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (small sirrus medium vita)

Giant Cross City 1 http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-au/bik ... 941/76667/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (small)

Trek 7.2 FX http://bikes-direct.com.au/product/trek-7-2-fx/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (17.5)

I am going lower end as that way if I actually like the event I can onsell and then buy a much better bike, rather than buy a $1000+ and then only use it for riding with the kids.

So far im leaning torwards the sirrus if I can find a 2015 in small. The customer service has been good at those shops.
Saying that the Trek shops the customer service has been fantiastic
The Giant sellers havnt been bad but the others trump them.

Thank you for your advice :)

You can't go wrong. All three brands will look after the bike if you have a problem of any kind. You have a good strategy and have done your research - go for the one you're leaning towards. Have fun with the training!

The specialised and Giant have marginally narrower tires, although I doubt 3mm is a deal breaker. I'd just buy whichever feels most comfortable - that's how I chose my bike and haven't regretted it.
