Sorry Leaf T but I don't have the Cowbell I have the Ragley Lux, that has a very long 31.8 mm section if you can find one, I'm hanging on to mine.Leaf T wrote:Hi Bentnose. It is a bit of a hassle swapping around but I'm using a Rohloff so makes it easier than having to deal with seperate shifters. If you get a chance can you measure the tops of the cowbells for me? I'm wondering how long the 31.8 section is. I want to mount a handlebar bag and inline brake levers.

No probs. The lux looks wider at the drops if I googled the right bar. It's for use on a tourer.

I've got the Cowbells (gravel bike) and the Woodchipper (not currently used...but attached to a frame). Both are 44 cm wide bars but different flare and drop makes the difference. I got both from the US when times were good...
From memory...both are 31.8 fat all the way to the end. Even the Hope bar end plugs don't fit in them.

Ours is not to reason why...merely to point and giggle

Thanks sbd. I'm curious to know the length of the fat section where the stem attaches.

It seems the volumetrics of the black bar have changed again as shipping cost is now back to £59.99Bentnose wrote:This is the email I got back from Planet X:
Hello
Thank you for your email.
The shipping cost is automatically calculated from the size and weight of the order.
Regrettably, we are unable to reduce the cost of shipping items, as this is what we are charged by our carrier.
You would think if someone flags it they would check it, so I responded back saying I was puzzled as I would think the white bar and the black bar would be the same size and weight. They got back back to me saying:
It appears that the volumetrics have been set incorrectly for the white bar, with the weight being declared 2kg heavier than it actually is.
I've fed this back - and I imagine that this should be updated later today.
Problem sorted it seems.

Given the price of the salsa bars & outrageous shipping of the midge, I thought I would try the Alpkit Love Mud Bomber, available in Henry Ford's favourite colour. £16.67 + £6.00 Shipping, total ~AU$40. Ordered 9 Sept, delivered 19 Sep.
In case Leaf T is still interested the 31.8mm stem bulge is ~115mm + a taper of ~50mm, leaving ~65 mm of straight bar before bending down to the drops, so total top width is ~345mm. 560mm is the width to the centre of the drops.

Thanks Bruce. I've put the drop bar idea on the back burner for the time being. I've been getting good results trying different positions with the long Ergon bar ends I've been using. So far I'm finding them good a little above horizontal.
