Postby beginerMTBrider » Mon Apr 04, 2016 8:45 pm
Hello im new to the sport of mountain biking and therefore need a new bike and some advice to get me started i have a maximum budget of $850 AUD and am looking at the following bikes: Giant Talon 4 2016 27.5, Specialized pitch sport 650b, Scott aspect 760, Trek Marlin 6 or anybike you can suggest in this price range i would want a new bike and am intending of doing light trail/ cross country than working my way into heavier trail rides and eventually local races (nothing to serious). i will have a poll listing the following options all help is appreciated and please feel free to leave a comment. Thanks alot i look forward to seeing your responses and would be appreciated if you could rank them or tell me your favourite, give advice and even recomend a bike you think fits my criteria thank you

I am too lazy to search for the specs. So unable to comment on the bikes.
Find a good bike shop. Buy from them.

Link to the specs for the bikes so we don't have to look. Then buy a secondhand quality bike... so someone else takes the showroom hit on price. Apart from anything else none of the bikes have decent forks with any damping, only good for riding along a lumpy bike path. They're also very heavy. For example, the basic Suntour XCT forks weigh 2.7kg. Used you can get a quality older bike that can take you up to the racing you might want to get to, too. None of these bikes will.

Also consider that for each of the bikes you will want to make sure it feels nice to ride. While those bikes are decent entry level, they aren't really suited to racing, but nothing to stop you racing on them. After all, once you get the bug and get involved you'll start to look for upgrades. Entry level race bikes tend to start around the $1500 mark.
If you are sold on buying one of a selection of several bikes and they all feel the same and have similar specs, pick your favourite colour.

Thanks for all the replies guys/girls I decided I wanted a new bike as second hand bikes where slim pickings and I went with the Scott it rides the best and I'm very happy with it on the rides I've done with my mates
