Thanks for sharing. Phil is pretty pro so a lesser skilled MTBer could suffer far worse.
The verdict, unless you win a genuine competition or have a friend who lends or gives you a decent bike, there are no freebies and while the supermarkets appear to be good value, they are worth well less than their price.
