tyre size help please
Postby rob247 » Sat Aug 13, 2016 9:53 pm
i have a 2014 specialized hardrock sport 29er & i am looking to buy slick tyres for it. the specialized site says the rim is 29" with 25mm inner width. i have no idea what size tyre to buy? i know i need a 700 but... 23c, 25c, 28c... i dont know what this means & if any of them will be too wide or too narrow for my rims? can anyone help pls?

25mm rim width is nice and wide.
You want to be looking at tyres with a width of 25mm (25c) or wider.
How wide do you go is more an issue of how much clearance your MTB has to accomodate extra width tyres (heaps in your case I'd suggest) and precisely what you want to do with the tyres.

32 or 35 (or more) would be my choice.
I have done a lot of km on Schwalbe Big Apple in 2.35
really skinny tyres looks funny on a 29er.

I wouldn't put any narrower than 28mm on 25mm rims; any narrower won't sit nicely on the rims & won't ride very well either.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.
