Lezyne Power Drive 600XL or Macro Drive 600

Postby b1 » Sun Sep 18, 2016 5:43 pm

I'm looking for a new front light for early morning road riding.

I've short listed the Lezyne Power Drive and the Macro Drive. Same price and same lumens.

Any ideas on which I should pick?

Depends. Main differences are:

1. Strap. One is silcone type, the other is plastic with a screw. Each to their own.
2. Next is runtime. The newer one runs for slightly longer.
3. Beam spread, the newer one has a wider beam spread if this is important to you. You can check them out at a numbr of sites like MTBR lights shootout.
4. Batteries. The older style uses standard 18650 batteries which are industry standard. This mens you can replace it cheaply (don't have to uby lezyne specific), but more importantly you can increase run time by about 30% by buying high capacity 18650s rated to 3000mAh or 3400mAh (about $30 on ebay). The stock 18650 is about 2500mAh. It also means you can buy standalone chargers (leave one at work) or keep a few batteries here and there without making it too expensive.

I'd go the older style mostly for the battery compatibility.
