5800 105 Shift Kit with 6700 Ultegra Chainset?

Postby sir_camel » Thu Jan 19, 2017 11:30 am

Is anyone running 11-speed derailleurs/shifters with a 10-speed chainset? Does it work?

Currently running a mix of 5700 and 6700.

Obviously I will need a new cassette and chain too but looking to upgrade my very tired shifters and derailleurs. My chainset is in pretty good condition so would like to keep them if possible.

Yep, crank isn't fussy. :-)
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

Cheers. Just found it hard to get accurate info from searches. No difference in spacing? of the chain rings as such?

No, or if there is it's not enough to affect performance. There was a much bigger change between 1st & 2nd-generation 10-sp. cranks.

I'm running 6800 11s on one bike with 10s sram S900 crankset.
The other is about to be 5800 11s with 6600 10s crankset.
You will need 11s hub on the rear wheel too. The 11s hub is 1.85mm wider.

Looks to be naff all diff between the 5800 and 6800 I have on my other bike. Works fine with the chainset.

I am wondering if there is any functional difference between 5800 and 6800?
I can't pick it if there is.

No, the differences are just in materials.

Thanks again Duck :)
So what is the weight difference? Are we talking a mouthful or 2 of water, over the whole groupset?
I haven't tried the whole groupo just shifters and derailleurs (med cage rear) on 58 and 6800. There is no point paying extra for 6800 on that comparison.
