I have a well loved Cervelo that has seen lots of km's. Still like the bike, but it's getting unreliable and as such, I've not ridden it much lately and not liking the weight changes to myself.
Whilst I'd love to go and buy a new bike, I think I need to get back into riding more before I can justify the change over costs.
The main problems are wheel issues with constant broken/loose spokes. It's never been like this over the term of ownership, and if only for peace of mind I'm happy to get a new set of wheels.
Currently, it's rolling on Fulcrum 3's and it looks as if it's going to cost me about $500 or so for a new set.
I was just wondering if theres been many upgrades to wheels over the last 5-6 years, and that maybe the 2017 Fulcrum 3's are many jumps better than what I have and that maybe if I'm happy with the old ones, Fulcrum 5's or the like would be good enough?
I don't race, and when back into riding I generally do 2-3 days a week commuting and a couple of 50-100km rides a week.

Were the Fulcrum 3s popping spokes or was it another wheelset as I really rate Fulcrum 3s and the Campy equivalent Zondas. The other good value for money wheelset is a set of Shimano RS81s.
You can get some real bargain buying secondhand as well. The Fulcrum and Campy wheels now come in 17mm width (which you might want to check with the Cervelo because they were pretty tight for clearance for memory). I don't think there would be a huge difference in the old models to the new model.
If your Fulcrum 3s are in good shape (and it might pay to visit your LBS and get them serviced and to check the hubs e.g for right amount of tightness etc.
Also if you haven't already tried experimenting with tyre sizes such as 25mm and tyre pressures then I'd be doing that first.

My son has raced and trained on his Fulcrum 3s for about 5 years now and they have been flawless. Still run perfectly true. So not sure whats happening with yours.
Pretty sure you could get your LBS to retension all the spokes and that should solve the problem.
Otherwise a good option is the Fulcrum Racing Quattros, you can pick them up online for around $300 and are probably slightly sturdier with the wider rim profile.

Have had ongoing issues with spokes coming loose, in the end this happened when I was out riding and without a spoke key (which I should have been carrying) could only tighten them by hand. Resulting in the spoke working its way out, snapped the spoke.
As suggested, I did take the wheel to the LBS and had them replace the broken spoke and retension the wheel. It was chatting to the LBS on pickup that they suggested that I've probably seen the best out of the wheels and to maybe start thinking of replacements. FWIW up until this I've never had an issue with them (in probably near 7 years of so) part of the reason I'm keen to stay with the same for replacements.
Whilst it may have been a sales spiel, just for peace of mind, and to get me spurred into riding again I'd be happy to replace the wheels with new ones.
Thinking about it it's not a huge amount to spend considering the km they've clocked up.

I put a set of the older style Campy Zonda on my 2012 Cervelo R3 last year. I was after a narrow rim as unfortunately there is bugger all clearance in the rear for that years R3. Even with 25c tyres on a narrow rim it still occasionally rubs. All that aside, they have been faultless so far. I know Campy make Fulcrum, but I've had some bad luck with 2 sets of Fulcrum wheels. Who knows, maybe I've just been unlucky...

Nice, an absolute bargain at $427 with the discount. As long as they'll fit the OP's frame.

What sort of cervelo is it?
My 2012 S5 fits firecrest 404s easily.
It will not fit anything bigger than 23c regardless of what rim it is on due to clearance problems with diameter not width.

I normally run Conti Force2/Attack2 which are 22/24c, currently it's on 23c GP4000's.
