I'm looking to finally upgrade from my 16 year old Giant to a new 27.5 hardtail and I'm interested in the Apollo Aspire 40.

My budget is $1000 - 1500 and I can get this for around $900. I'm wondering if it's worth buying it and spend a little more upgrading say the brakes or would something like a Merida Big Seven be better value?
I will be using it mainly just weekends for off road trails and general commuting so I want something basically as an all rounder that can be pushed a bit on the track, small jumps and downhills but comfortable to ride on paths and roads.
I really like the look of the Apollo and I'm told the slacker head angle would suit my riding but I'm concerned about some of the components. I'm planning to take one for a test ride later in the week.

It's a good bike for the price. You can get more kit towards the $1500 side of your budget of course - air shocks for example. But this is a good spec at the price - and I agree the looks of a bike matter.
