hi guys, i currently ride a scott cr1 pro, carbon frame running ultegra.
i also have an old 2009/10 trek 1.2 running sora. its in good condition, just some minor corrosion around the headset bearing area and the area where the outer cables feed into. the frame is alpha aluminium.
i have a spare ultegra groupset and was thinking of stripping this bike down, i.e. paint, components etc.. to create another bike that i can use for overseas trips and i can use this one on my wahoo kickr instead of the better bike.
so my question is, is this a decent frame? is it really worth putting an ultegra groupset on it or should i source another aluminium frame?
i want to stick to aluminium as its a bit more robust. ive looked around for aluminium frames at a decent price but they seem hard to come by.
this is the frame (pic is not my actual bike)

any advice, much appreciated.

Sure why not, your frame is exactly the same as any other aluminium frame that you would buy. Why waste money on another frame? Build it up and don't worry about the paint job.
My Fausto Coppi aluminium is 20 years old and rides beautifully. It has heaps of chips and scrapes but still turns heads whenever I ride it.

depends on how deep your pockets are
torpedo 7 sometimes have great deals on frames, you could pick up a decent frame if your not too picky.
Then just use the Trek as is on the trainer .
