VeloEx 30mm Clincher vs Fulcrum 3

Postby marty_one » Thu Jun 22, 2017 11:32 am

Hi everyone,

I'm going to be buying a new wheelset shortly. Been looking at the Fulcrum 3 wheelset, but then I saw similar priced wheels from VeloEx. The VeloEx 30mm clincher wheelset.

Has anyone heard of these? finding reviews on the internet about them are few and far between. The pro's for these at the moment are the local supplier and local support with a 50% discount at the moment. If anyone has a VeloEx wheel set please let me know what your thoughts are on them.

I have had a great experience with e Fulcrum 3 front wheel. Bought it off a local cycling group member, the rear wheel was totaled in an incident with a car from behind.

They look like open mold rims. Their website text seems like it was written by an overenthusiastic early twenty something. Based on this I wouldn't buy from them.

I'd go with a bigger manufacturer at that price range. Fulcrum are owned by Campagnolo so try looking for the C17 zondas as well you might be able to get one lower than the other.

VeloEx is owned by the most genuine bike people you could find. I don't know about the wheels, but the owner has been racing and supporting/donating to local club racing in melbourne for 30+ years. One of the good guys for sure.....

Thanks guys, even though the VeloEx wheels are cheaper and you get some freebies with them. I think I'm going to go with the Fulcrum 3's mainly because of my own personal experience.

The aftersales service (warranty particularly) is where the difference may appear.

Price seems good

Is $488 the 50% off price?
What's the width?

Go with the wheels that you can get good after sales service for, and supply of parts.

At that price (unless you are seeking super aero TT wheels) it might be worth investigating a wider rim option, so you can use the grip and rolling resistance advantages of a 25c or 28c tyre. Those rims look like KINLIN XR300 (or a Chinese copy - the Chinese even copy each other!) which are an old school design now - 16mm internal width. That said, they are not a bad rim (if they are the KINLIN).

And you should find any parts required easy enough .... Good luck.
