Hi.
Backyard jalopy tinkerer here with a question to anyone out there...
I am looking to replace the gear cassette on my old Malvern Star mountain bike.
I've taken the freewheel cassette off and it is a Shimano MF-TZ07.
Can't find one of these for a reasonable price (ie around $20). Most seem to be in Italy.
I can find the MF-TZ21 which to me looks to be compatible. ie it is same gears, teeth and appears to be a threaded cassette assembly.
Just hoping someone can guide me here.
Thanks
John

First, it's a freewheel cluster, not a cassette.
You should be able to get one from your local for about $20. All freewheel clusters use the same thread to attach to the hub, so are interchangeable. Different models may have slightly different construction and tooth profiling, but they're all compatible.

I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

Hi,
Just thought I'd post a follow up so that someone in my position can look up that a
"MF-TZ21 is a compatible replacement for the MF-TZ07"
Just been for a ride around the block and it works great!
Now I just need to slowly replace everything else and I'll have a brand new bike (for once).

I had an old MTB and put a Shimano MF-HG37 freewheel on. That's the 7 speed with a 13-28 range (rather than 14-28).
So that's another option.
