Don't know a lot about them yet. Just on the market here.

Was hoping to get a pair of the Velo 4S to try for BNA.

Could be an interesting contender ...

Interesting to see what the pricing (online sites) & actual size is like when installed.

Lordgun Bicycles in Italy have the Velo selling for $48, so I'd imagine the UK retailers will be similarly priced. Interesting to see a new contender at that end of the market.

Pushys selling them $75. They will need to come down I would think to compete with the Conti's.

They reviewed well against the ubiquitous GP4000S II for rolling resistance:

And puncture protection:

The new range of Pirelli road bike tires consists of three tires.
The first and most all-round tire is the Pirelli P Zero Velo that can be seen as a direct competitor to popular tires like the Continental Grand Prix 4000S II.

The second tire is an ultra-light time-trial tire: Pirelli P Zero Velo TT.

The third is an all-season version with a compound that's optimized more towards cold and wet conditions: Pirelli P Zero Velo 4S.

Interesting. I currently use the Continental Grand Prix (2014) normal and GT versions in 25C and love them. Using the above link, did a compare, and they do pretty well compared to the 4000II & GP 4 Season.

But not better, so what would be the point in switching?

Which size tyre was that anyway?

Strong wet weather claim is always interesting. The original GP4000 had insufficient wet weather grip, as can be confirmed by the 2 riders that I took out 300mtrs from the end of a race a few years back. That problem was fixed by the GP4000s which appeared to me to have a big improvement in wet weather grip. If these tyres have even more wet weather grip than the current race Conti's, Michelin's, Veloflex etc, then that's a claim worth investigating

Try something different? Some people like to experiment.

I think they were 25s.

I was in the LBS yesterday wondering about new tyres since I've had a series of flats lately and it was getting annoying. They had the Pirelli's on display so I decided to splash out on a pair of 4s so that I could go riding today. The guy in the shop was talking up the grip. I rode them today and certainly noticed the difference from my 18 month old GP4000s. They mounted very easily. It could be the fact that I just dropped $150 on a pair of tyres working on my psyche but they did feel smooth and descending with the bunch was pretty fast which is unusual for me. So, first impressions are good.

I don't think I'm very good at reviewing tyres. I've been riding them for a few months now and they've been good. I've not really noticed them. Grip has been good and a few rides in the wet were uneventful. I've swapped them between wheels a couple of times and they are very easy to mount on the rim without having to reach for a lever. Very happy with them but I don't know that they are much different to GP4000s (apart from the mounting/removal).

Belated response, but were you using black or coloured tread tyres at the time? Due to the pigments, the colours did have less grip than the black tyres, which is one reason why the GP4000s was only offered in black.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

Yeah thats a good info review.
I still would't mind trying them, I don't need any tyres...but the trying of stuff...I so want to.

I nearly went for those myself, but at near enough the same price decided on S-Works Turbo 26C (the Specialized alternative to 25mm). The shop had both. The S-Works seems to have awesome grip in the corners and rolls pretty well.

With the GP4000S and GP4000S II I never had any trouble in the rain with them, so if the Pirelli is better than that, then they must be good.

The GP4000 were full black

When your second wheel behind a track sprinter 300mtrs from the finish of the Sydney road titles your willing to find that limit :(

While back on this topic, do any modern tyres have their wet weather grip changed by the aging of the tyre? Back in the day there were those who use to store the tyres for a couple of years before using them.

Pirelli returns to professional racing with Aqua Blue Sport sponsorship

http://www.cyclingweekly.com/news/produ ... ing-376304
ollowing its return to the cycling market, Pirelli has announced a partnership with the Irish Pro Continental team Aqua Blue Sport. The 3T Strada bike of the team is designed around 28mm tyres, giving it unique aerodynamic characteristics. For this reason, Pirelli are providing the team with a bespoke 28mm tubular tyres.

According to Pirelli, the deal is not just about providing branded tyres. Instead, the Italian company is using the opportunity to have a “genuine technical collaboration” and feedback with the team. The brand hopes it will lead to specific and unique tyre solutions in the future. In particular, the development of tubular tyres that it will one day bring to market.

The tyres will be first raced this weekend at the Amstel Gold Race, then continue through the season. Pirelli says that at each race additional new solutions will be added to the tyre.
