New bike recommendation for commuting to work

Postby mansfieldbiker75 » Mon Aug 28, 2017 4:30 pm

Hi All,

I'm new to this forums and looking for a new bike recommendation for commuting to work. I haven't used bikes before for commuting to work so i'm going to give a try. My budget is around Max $700 and shortlisted the following bikes. Could someone help me choose?

1) Giant Cross city 2 - http://www.giantbrisbane.com.au/en-au/b ... 134/93115/
2) Merida Speeder 20 - http://www.99bikes.com.au/merida-speede ... black-2017
3) Norco - http://www.99bikes.com.au/bike17-norco- ... isc-citron
4) Apollo Trace 20 - http://www.99bikes.com.au/bike17-apollo ... rc-blk-red

Thanks

Realistically it'd be splitting hairs at this price point. You'll be happy on any of them so test ride if possible to see which saddle suits your backside.

Biggest difference I can see is that the Apollo is 2x8 gearing and 38c tyres, all the rest are 3x8 gearing (good for hills) and 32c tyres.

Only the Merida doesn't clearly state whether or not is has rack, fender and pannier mounts. The rest have them which is good if you plan to commute on wet roads and need mud guards, or carry gear in panniers etc.
When you are driving your car, you are not stuck IN traffic - you ARE the traffic!!!
