15x100 QR or thru axle,differences?

Postby Bentnose » Sun Sep 03, 2017 5:02 pm

Just hunting for some new suspension forks for a new MTB build and am seeing 15x100mm QR and 15x100mm thru axle. What's the difference and which is better if any or are they the same thing?

I think they're the same thing. The execution will differ slightly between RockShox and Fox but the end result is the same: threaded end which you screw in, and then lock with a cam lever at the opposite end.

Yes, they're interchangeable terms for the same thing. The QR bit comes from still having an overcentre locking lever similar to a normal quick release to secure the axle in place. It also distinguishes the system from the 20mm "Maxle"-type through-axles which are secured by pinch bolts rather than the overcentre lever.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.
