I am on the search for a decent upside down mountable dynamo light for an endurance/audax ride. I have identified four but just checking in case I have missed anything.
Mounting options are limited so if the lights can be mounted via GroPro mount that is a bonus.
Supernova E3 Triple 2 [BTW is anyone playing with one of these babies?]
Sinewave Cycles Beacon [I don't really need the charging feature so paying a premium here]
kLite Bikepacker Pro (1200lm) - Kerry is out of stock and I believe quite ill so not sure about stock availability going forward.
Exposure Revo (800lm) - Availability is limited by the looks

I hadn't heard that about Kerry, not good news. Obviously a shaped beam can't be mounted upside down. The other issue I can think of is waterproofing, especially where the wire leaves the housing.
If you want a gopro mount, an alloy adaptor like this
should work for most lights

I was keeping that in mind and I believe that the Sinewave Beacon is okay with an upside down mounting and I am pretty sure with the Supernova as well but will double check now.find_bruce wrote:I hadn't heard that about Kerry, not good news. EDIT: Supernova say "Lamp-body should not be assembled with the cable-outlet on top." so looks like an upside-down mounting might not be an option or otherwise I would need to seal the where the cable goes into the housing.
The bike, a Giant Defy Advanced 2 comes with a GroPro mount due to its stem mounted brakes system which is what I looking at using but I can also use a K-Edge GroPro mount which means I can flip it up if necessary [have one on hand] so should be good with the adapter but thanks for the link.
Supernova also do a specific GroPro adapter for their lights which is handy.

On the subject of mounts, these alloy ones look interesting ...
and I can add the Busch & Muller Lumotec IQ-X to the list of options. Its mounting bracket is designed to be twisted keeping the light itself at the correct level.
As well the SON Edelux II comes in an upside down mount version.

Kevin is a great guy & his adaptors are solid & functional, just a shame small batch anodizing is so expensive- which reminds me he made a custom mount for Drizt on these forums so they could mount an edelux light the right way up from a dual mount - see Shimano gearing options for Gravel / Light Touring

Thanks for the link. Those brackets look interesting. I hadn't see that thread.find_bruce wrote:Kevin is a great guy & his adaptors are solid & functional, just a shame small batch anodizing is so expensive- which reminds me he made a custom mount for Drizt on these forums so they could mount an edelux light the right way up from a dual mount - see Shimano gearing options for Gravel / Light Touring

It looks like, that with the Giant GoPro mount and the use of an adapter I should be able to mount a dyanmo light up the right side after all. I have a small Busch & Muller light in my spares box which would fit okay by the looks. So looking good on that aspect.
One small negative is that the Giant outfront mount that mounts off the top of the brake module only comes with Garmin and Giant mount trays, nothing for a Wahoo Elemnt. I have mounted the Wahoo on the stem for now and will decide if I will modify a Garmin mount tray or not.
I will probably wait until I have the light sorted and see if I have okay height clearance.
